Biography Maura
Vazakas is a southern California artist working in mixed media on canvas
and works on paper. As the daughter of an artist, she learned to draw
at an early age. As a teenager, she plastered her walls with self-designed
fashion sketches.
Poetry and music are other art forms through which Maura expresses herself. She studied piano at the Juilliard School of Music. In the years following, she went to Oberlin College, majoring in piano performance and minoring in art. While at Oberlin, she studied with the noted authority on Pop art, Ellen Johnson.
Maura's paintings have appeared in galleries and museums in San Diego,
San Francisco, Los Angeles, Palm Springs, Atlanta, Chicago, and New York
City. Her work was also featured in New American Paintings, Vol.31.
